About us
Common Thread Australia exists to create spaces where emerging leaders, particularly women, can learn from lived experience, build confidence in their own voice, and form meaningful professional connections. Our mission is to make leadership feel more human, accessible and shared through conversation, story and community.
We create both online and in-person spaces that connect people at different stages of their careers. Through our podcast series, we sit down with industry leaders to explore the real journeys behind success. We talk about the decisions, doubts and lessons learned along the way, not just the highlights, but the realities of leadership, growth and change.
Alongside the podcast, we host curated networking events designed to feel welcoming, purposeful and inclusive. These gatherings are about more than exchanging business cards, they’re about building confidence, sharing experiences and forming genuine, lasting relationships.
Common Thread is for people who are curious, about themselves, their industry and the people around them and who believe that shared stories and honest connection can help us all move forward.
Meet the Founder,
Shevon
With over 10 years’ experience across architecture, engineering and construction, Shevon brings a cross‑disciplinary perspective and a deep appreciation for how these industries work best together. She has worn a few hats across business development, strategy, marketing and project delivery, which has shaped my ability to think strategically while staying hands‑on and people‑focused. As a natural communicator who genuinely loves building relationships, Shevon is driven by bringing people together, mentoring emerging leaders and creating meaningful impact, both for individuals and the businesses they’re part of.
Who We Are
-
Common Thread is, and always has been, about people. Sharing stories. Building confidence. And creating spaces where curiosity, kindness and connection can thrive.
-
Openness
We believe the most meaningful conversations happen when people feel safe to share honestly.
We create environments where different experiences, perspectives and stories are welcomed, without pretence or hierarchy.Courage
Growth requires bravery. Whether it’s asking a question, sharing a story, or stepping into a room where you don’t know anyone, we champion the courage it takes to show up, speak up and try.
Curiosity
Curiosity is at the heart of everything we do. We ask thoughtful questions, listen deeply, and remain open to learning, from industry leaders, peers and ourselves.
Respect
We value people, time and lived experience. Respect underpins how we host conversations, facilitate events and engage with our community, always with professionalism, care and intention.

Where It Started
Working across the design, construction and property industry, I was regularly catching up with people I admired, leaders I met through work, industry events or shared networks. What struck me wasn’t just their experience or achievements, but how generously they spoke about their journeys: the decisions they’d made, the challenges they’d faced, and the lessons they’d learned along the way.
Capturing the Conversations
I began documenting those conversations as a Q&A article series on LinkedIn. There was no grand plan, just a genuine desire to capture and share the insight I was hearing, particularly for people earlier in their careers. Each interview reinforced the same feeling: these were the conversations I wished I’d had access to sooner.
The Podcast
A turning point came after my interview with Sonya Miller from Armitage Jones. At the end of our conversation, she casually asked when the podcast was coming out and suggested I turn the series into one. That question planted the seed for the Common Thread podcast and became the natural evolution of the work.
The Purpose
The intention has stayed the same ever since: to share different journeys and perspectives from leaders currently in the industry, for future leaders finding their way through it. Not polished success stories, but honest reflections shared generously to help others navigate their own careers and the challenges that come with them.
I’ve been fortunate to find mentors throughout my career, but I also know how powerful earlier guidance can be. The podcast exists to help people feel inspired to take more control of their careers.
From Conversations to Community
The events grew from that same place. I noticed a gap for smaller, more intimate gatherings where people could genuinely connect without the pressure or formality of traditional networking. I started with a simple morning tea, and the response was immediate.
Today, the Bond over Brunch events are designed primarily for women stepping into leadership and those early in their careers, giving them the opportunity to build a network before they need it. They’re about connection, confidence and community.
